§ 2-40. Composition; terms.

(a)

The town council shall be composed of the mayor and five (5) aldermen elected by the qualified voters within the corporate limits of this town and shall hold their office for a term of two (2) years and until their successors are elected and qualified.

(b)

The mayor and each alderman shall serve for terms of two (2) years. For the purpose of staggering the terms of office of the mayor and aldermen, they shall be divided into two (2) groups—one (1) group composed of the mayor and two (2) aldermen, whose term of office shall expire in even-numbered years; and the other group composed of the remaining three (3) aldermen, whose term of office shall expire in odd-numbered years.
